Indian team captain Rohit Sharma revealed the conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid about quitting coaching.
According to Indian media, Rahul Dravid will withdraw from the coaching of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup in America and West Indies and the Indian Cricket Board has also invited applications for the appointment of a new head coach.
The Indian team is going to make its debut in the T20 World Cup from today and the first match of the Indian team will be against Ireland.
At the press conference ahead of their opening match in the T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma also got emotional while talking about the talks with Rahul Dravid about quitting coaching.
Rohit Sharma said, “When I first came to the Indian team, Rahul Dravid was the captain. We have seen him play. He is a role model for all of us. He has played for the Indian group for quite a while. Also saw Rahul Dravid when he came as the coach of Indian team, we have won almost all major tournaments with him, he was the first person who said this is what we have to do.
The Indian captain said, “I personally tried to get Rahul Dravid to continue coaching the Indian team. I don’t want to see him go, but he has his own personal preferences.”
On the other hand, the Indian media has claimed with reference to sources that Gautam Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid as the new head coach of India’s men’s team and the buzz of Gautam Gambhir being given the coaching responsibilities of the Indian team has been heard recently. It was heard in the middle of the defunct IPL, but after renewing his contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, it is now up to the former all-rounder whether he accepts the offer to coach the Indian team or not.
