T20 World Cup: England beat Namibia by 41 runs under DLS method

In the 34th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, defending champion England won 2 important points by defeating Namibia by 41 runs under the DLS method in a rain-affected match.

In the match played in North Sound, Namibia won the toss and invited the English team to bat first.

Due to rain, the toss was delayed and the match was first limited to 11 overs per innings, but in the English team’s innings, the match was again stopped due to rain and then the match was limited to 10 overs per innings.

England’s innings

England scored 122 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 10 overs, but under the DLS method, Namibia got a target of 126 runs.

On behalf of the English team, Harry Brooke scored an unbeaten 47 and Jonny Bairstow scored 31 runs. Apart from this, Phil Salt scored 11 runs, captain Butler Safar, Moeen Ali scored 16 runs and Livingston scored 13 runs.

Namibia’s innings

In pursuit of England’s target of 126 runs, the Namibian team managed to score 84 runs for 3 wickets in the allotted 10 overs.

Michael Wayne 33, Nicholas Dion 18 and David Visa scored 27 runs. On behalf of the English team, Archer and Jordan took one wicket each.

Thus, England won by 41 runs and kept the hope of reaching the Super 8 stage.

Australia has already qualified for the Super 8 stage from Group B, England will have to wait for Scotland’s defeat by the Kangaroos to reach the next stage.

In Group B, Australia is first with 6 points, England and Scotland are second and third with 5 and 5 points respectively.

The English team’s group matches are over while Scotland have to play their last match against Australia today.

If Australia wins this match, England will reach the Super 8 but if Scotland pull off an upset against the Kangaroos, they will qualify for the next round and England’s journey will be over.
